For example, a segment could denote a group of users who live in a certain area or a group of users who have purchased a particular product. \n\n\n**Why should I segment users? **\n\nSegmenting users increase your marketing efficiency by sending targeted campaigns to the right users at the right time. Dividing users into segments improves results as the content is more precisely matched to the needs and wants of your customers. \n\n\n**What types of segments can I build? **\n\nPulsate provides seven categories to build conditions on; Personal, Activity, Device Settings, Events, Location and Custom Data. Each parent category is divided further to create granular segments, providing even deeper, more targeted data. \n\n\n**Segment by Personal**\n[block:parameters]\n{\n \"data\": {\n \"h-0\": can be built on Pulsate once you have integrated the SDK (Software Development Kit). To create a segment, click the “+ New Segment” button to be taken to the segment builder page. \n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/47c26a3-segment_types.gif\",\n \"segment types.gif\",\n 600,\n 279,\n \"#294b80\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nHere you can add one or multiple conditions from the drop down menu to start building your segments out. All app users will initially be included in your segment until a condition is added. The more conditions added, the more specialised your segment gets.\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/HAicAYp3R4OtEypmk6Dn_Screen%20Shot%202016-06-22%20at%2012.03.37.png\",\n \"Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 12.03.37.png\",\n \"1028\",\n \"309\",\n \"#386998\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\n\n[block:callout]\n{\n \"type\": \"info\",\n \"body\": \"As more conditions are added the number of users will decrease creating granular segments of users.\"\n}\n[/block]\n**How to segment users based on the language of their device**\n\nPulsate allows you to segment users based on the language of their device. To segment users based on language, click on New Segment > Device Settings > Device Language:\n\n\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/f3fb052-Screenshot_2019-01-11_11.48.04.png\",\n \"Screenshot 2019-01-11 11.48.04.png\",\n 750,\n 317,\n \"#f2fafa\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nYou can then enter the language code that you wish to segment users based on into the Value field. The language codes should be in the ISO 639-1 Language Codes format. Specific examples of codes for each language can be found in our SDK documentation [here](https://pulsate.readme.io/v2.0/docs/sdk-language-localization#language-codes)\n\n**How to build out your segments using 'And' or 'Or' conditions**\n\nAfter you have added your first condition, you can build out segments further using both 'And' or 'Or' conditions. To add either an 'And' or 'Or' condition select the 'Add' button underneath the first condition and choose the relevant option. The 'And' condition when selected will automatically place another 'And' condition directly underneath the previous.\nIf an 'Or' condition is selected it will indent and nest underneath the previous condition with an option to add further 'or' conditions underneath.\n\n\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/Ky79NWFRbKHCDYwzVR4t_Screen%20Shot%202016-06-22%20at%2012.52.15.png\",\n \"Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 12.52.15.png\",\n \"1528\",\n \"577\",\n \"#3e5f8e\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\n**Saving your segment** \n\nWhen you have finished creating your first segment click 'save segment' in the top right hand corner of the page. This will activate a popup modal where you can then name and save your newly created segment of users.\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/ADARuVajQtm2JT5gD32A_Screen%20Shot%202016-06-22%20at%2012.53.15.png\",\n \"Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 12.53.15.png\",\n \"1320\",\n \"557\",\n \"#2976d4\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\n**Locating and viewing your saved segment** \n\nAfter you have named and saved your segment it will automatically appear in the list of previously created segments in the Targeting section of the campaign builder under 'Segments'. \n\n\n**How to use custom data to build segments**\n\nImport your custom data to the Pulsate cloud to create granular segments specific to your brand and the actions of your customers. \n\n\n**Dynamic Updating of User Segments**\n\nUsers will move in and out of saved segments dynamically as their behaviour, social, and geospatial data updates in real-time.\n\n\n\n**Segment Action Buttons**\n\nThe action buttons located beside each segment allows to edit a segment, view segment users, duplicate segment, export and delete segments.\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/44b61e3-segment_Action_Buttons.gif\",\n \"segment Action Buttons.gif\",\n 600,\n 282,\n \"#274a7f\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nAction Buttons\n[block:parameters]\n{\n \"data\": {\n \"h-0\": \"Name\",\n \"h-1\": \"Description\",\n \"0-0\": \"Edit\",\n \"0-1\": \"Allows to edit the segment\",\n \"1-0\": \"View Users\",\n \"1-1\": \"Allows to view users in the segment\",\n \"2-0\": \"Duplicate\",\n \"2-1\": \"Allows duplicate segment\",\n \"3-0\": \"Download\",\n \"3-1\": \"Allows to download segment users data\",\n \"4-0\": \"Delete\",\n \"4-1\": \"Allows to delete a segment permanently\"\n },\n \"cols\": 2,\n \"rows\": 5\n}\n[/block]\n**Edit Segment**\nYou can edit a segment anytime simply by clicking the edit icon which will bring you back into the segment builder. For example, a segment could denote a group of users who live in a certain area or a group of users who have purchased a particular product. **Why should I segment users? ** Segmenting users increase your marketing efficiency by sending targeted campaigns to the right users at the right time. Dividing users into segments improves results as the content is more precisely matched to the needs and wants of your customers. **What types of segments can I build? ** Pulsate provides seven categories to build conditions on; Personal, Activity, Device Settings, Events, Location and Custom Data. Each parent category is divided further to create granular segments, providing even deeper, more targeted data. **Segment by Personal** [block:parameters] { "data": { "h-0": "Segment by Personal", "0-2": "Custom Input" }, "cols": 3, "rows": 1 } [/block] **How to build a segment in Pulsate** Segments can be built on Pulsate once you have integrated the SDK (Software Development Kit). To create a segment, click the “+ New Segment” button to be taken to the segment builder page. [block:image] { "images": [ { "image": [ "https://files.readme.io/47c26a3-segment_types.gif", "segment types.gif", 600, 279, "#294b80" ] } ] } [/block] Here you can add one or multiple conditions from the drop down menu to start building your segments out. All app users will initially be included in your segment until a condition is added. The more conditions added, the more specialised your segment gets. [block:image] { "images": [ { "image": [ "https://files.readme.io/HAicAYp3R4OtEypmk6Dn_Screen%20Shot%202016-06-22%20at%2012.03.37.png", "Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 12.03.37.png", "1028", "309", "#386998", "" ] } ] } [/block] [block:callout] { "type": "info", "body": "As more conditions are added the number of users will decrease creating granular segments of users." } [/block] **How to segment users based on the language of their device** Pulsate allows you to segment users based on the language of their device. To segment users based on language, click on New Segment > Device Settings > Device Language: [block:image] { "images": [ { "image": [ "https://files.readme.io/f3fb052-Screenshot_2019-01-11_11.48.04.png", "Screenshot 2019-01-11 11.48.04.png", 750, 317, "#f2fafa" ] } ] } [/block] You can then enter the language code that you wish to segment users based on into the Value field. The language codes should be in the ISO 639-1 Language Codes format. Specific examples of codes for each language can be found in our SDK documentation [here](https://pulsate.readme.io/v2.0/docs/sdk-language-localization#language-codes) **How to build out your segments using 'And' or 'Or' conditions** After you have added your first condition, you can build out segments further using both 'And' or 'Or' conditions. To add either an 'And' or 'Or' condition select the 'Add' button underneath the first condition and choose the relevant option. The 'And' condition when selected will automatically place another 'And' condition directly underneath the previous. If an 'Or' condition is selected it will indent and nest underneath the previous condition with an option to add further 'or' conditions underneath.
