The beacon sends out signals every fraction of a second, while the smartphone detects these and receives campaigns relevant to its location and context. It requires two main components; a beacon (broadcaster) and a receiver (smartphone app) in order to work. Each beacon contains a UUID (universal unique identifier number) that is exclusive to a particular group of beacons - e.g. all of the beacons for one brand of store. It also includes a major and a minor. The major number dictates the area the beacon is located in the store, whereas the minor number relates to the specific item that’s attached to the beacon. \n\n**Why should I use beacons?**\n\nBeacons allow you to understand customer location and context with incredible accuracy. From previously gathered data, you can forge deeper relationships with customers by providing relevant, helpful information based on their activities within the physical environment. Beacons use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) which means it only consumes a fraction of the power of classic bluetooth radios. \n\n**How Pulsate uses beacons**\n\nOnce your beacons are activated, they will begin broadcasting customer location and context back via their device to the Pulsate cloud platform. Beacons allow you to define and target granular proximity zones by connecting your CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system with the Pulsate cloud. The platform enables a 360 degree profile of the customer through a powerful combination of in-depth customer profiles, with real-world location and context. With this capability, Pulsate can micro-calibrate every single communication and can therefore deliver the right message, at the right place and at the right time. \n\n**How to setup and add beacons to your Pulsate account.**\n\nTo set-up your beacons, log into Pulsate using your account details. In the navigation bar along the top, click on 'Targeting' followed by 'Beacons'. In the top right corner you will see a blue button that says ‘Add a Beacon’. After pressing this you will be given the choice to upload a CSV. file that contains the beacon’s details, or to add beacons manually. \n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://files.readme.io/JeRrOJxWSaerwdXdEW8X_Screen%20Shot%202016-06-22%20at%2011.56.33.png\",\n \"Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 11.56.33.png\",\n \"1240\",\n \"603\",\n \"#178577\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nIf you want to upload a CSV file, you will be asked to locate the file that you wish to use on your computer. To add beacons manually, you will need to enter the individual beacon's UUID, Major and Minor as well as a nickname for each beacon.
